Want to automate your home by installing motion sensor stair lights? It’s easier than it seems! With our simple guide, you’ll have them on right away.

There are times when you’ll have to go downstairs at night because you’re thirsty or hungry. That can be a problem if you turn off all the lights in your home before you sleep. You’ll most likely have to look for the switch before you go down the stairs to avoid an accident.

Since this can be quite a hassle, an alternative solution is to simply install motion sensor stair lights that turn on when they detect movement. This will save you the energy and time looking for the switch in the dark while you prevent accidents.

These steps will show you how to install these motion sensor LED lights the easy way.

What Are The Benefits Of Motion Sensor Stair Lights?

Before we go to the steps on how to install a motion-sensing stair light, let’s first go over some of the benefits that these set of lights offer. This should convince you to install a set in your home today.

Check them out below:

Safety

First of all, there’s the aspect of safety. Have you ever stepped on something or stubbed your toe while going to the stairs because you were looking for the switch?

Don’t worry, this happens to everyone!

However, a motion sensor stair light eliminates the chances of having an accident while walking down the steps. When the motion sensor light detects your body heat and movement at a certain distance, it automatically turns on, paving the pathway for walking down the stairs.

Energy Savings

LED lights are known for saving enormous amounts of energy as compared to the usual halogen lights. So instead of installing the usual switch powered halogen lights, just install motion sensor LED stair lights to save money.

Convenience

Lastly, it’s for convenience. If you still have to look for the light switch just to climb up or down the stairs, you’ll be wasting a lot of time and energy. Having these lights also makes it easier for guests to look for the bathroom if the guest bathroom happens to be upstairs.

How To Install Motion Sensor Stair Lights

Now that you know the benefits of having these types of lights, we hope you’re now more convinced to buy a set. If you already did, then you’re ready to move on to the installation steps.

To start off, you’ll need LED lights, a power supply, and PIR sensors. You’ll also need some wires, wire splice connectors, and a saw.

Once you get all of these ready, check out the steps below:

1. Make The Holes For The Lights

The first thing you’ll want to do is use a saw to cut a hole in the areas where you want to put your lights. You need to make holes for both the LED stair lights. We recommend your hole to be around 1.40 inches. When you make your holes, put the LED lights inside.

2. Install The Sensors

Next, create holes on both ends of the row of lights. These are the holes used for the PIR sensors.  Install the PIR sensor on the back of the wall and push them through the hole you made earlier.

3. Install The Wiring

The next thing to do is to install the wiring. Basically, the flow of the wiring starts with the power supply connected to the first PIR sensor. Then, use some wire nuts to connect the power supply to the second PIR sensor and the lights. You may also use a Quick-Connect Terminal Block.

4. Connect The Wires To The T Connectors

To connect the wires to the lights, install the wires of each light to the dual-channel T wire splice connectors. To do this, you split the black and red wires in the mainline and attach it to the respective channels of the T connector. After that, you end by connecting the last wire to the second PIR sensor.

Now that you’re done, all you have to do is try to turn on the power and see if it works.

Conclusion

It may take a little bit of know-how on electrical wiring to get this job done, but if you do have that knowledge installing motion sensor stair lights is pretty easy– especially if you have this short guide with you.

So, buy a set of LED stair lights with sensors now so you’ll have an easier time climbing up and down the stairs at night.
